How to use Timelines
Learn how to preserve and browse historical render versions of your Minecraft world with the Timelines feature.
What are Timelines?
Timelines is a Premium feature that preserves a history of your world's renders. Instead of each new render overwriting the previous one, Timelines saves each render as a separate version you can revisit at any time.
- See how your world looked at any previous render
- Compare builds over time by switching between versions
- Each version preserves its own tiles and render settings
- Name your versions for easy reference (e.g., "Before nether hub", "Season 2 start")
Premium Feature: Timelines requires a BedrockMap Premium subscription.
Enable Timelines for your world
Enable Timelines from your world's dashboard:
- Go to your world's management page in the BedrockMap dashboard
- Open the General Settings tab
- Toggle Enable map timeline to ON
When you enable Timelines, your current render is saved as the first version. All future renders will automatically create new versions.
How new versions are created
Once Timelines is enabled, new versions are created automatically each time you render:
- Upload an updated world file or click Re-render
- A new timeline version is created for the render
- Your previous version remains viewable on the map while the new one renders
- When all dimensions finish rendering, the new version becomes the active one
Note: Each version stores its own set of map tiles, so your previous renders are fully preserved and not overwritten.
Snapshot limit: Each world can store up to 20 timeline versions. When a new version is created beyond this limit, the version at the bottom of your timeline is automatically removed. You can reorder your versions to control which ones are kept.
Viewing historical versions on the map
Switch between timeline versions directly on the map viewer:
- Open your map at
bedrockmap.net/map/your-world-slug - Look for the version selector (clock icon) in the map controls
- Click it to see a list of all your timeline versions
- Select a version to load that historical snapshot
- The current (latest) version shows your map with all markers and live players
- Historical versions show the map as it was at that render, with markers hidden
- The URL updates with a
?v=parameter so you can share links to specific versions
Click back on the current version at any time to return to your live map.
Managing versions in the Dashboard
Manage your timeline versions from the Timeline tab on your world's dashboard:
- Rename: Click on a version's name to give it a custom label (e.g., "Before nether hub")
- Reorder: Use the up/down arrows to rearrange versions. The first version in the list becomes the active (current) version. Versions near the top are protected from automatic pruning when the 20-version limit is reached
- View: Click the view button to open any version directly on the map
- Delete: Remove old versions you no longer need (you cannot delete the current active version)
Each version shows its render timestamp, which dimensions are available (Overworld, Nether, End), and whether it's currently rendering.
Disabling Timelines
If you no longer need Timelines, you can disable the feature:
- Go to your world's General Settings tab
- Toggle Enable map timeline to OFF
- Confirm the action
Warning: Disabling Timelines is irreversible. Only the current active version will be kept - all historical versions and their tiles will be permanently deleted.
